“Volunteers are not paid because they are worthless, but because they are priceless”
Thank you for offering to share your time and talent with St. John Neumann Regional Catholic School. We value your participation, and you bless our school with your commitment, cooperation, and involvement.
Parent and Grandparent volunteers are essential to the success of our school. Not only is it the adage of many hands make for lighter work, but it is the pride in your school and the friends you make through volunteering that is the real bonus. While classroom help is often needed, we realize this is not always practical for all families. There are many other ways you can volunteer your time, whether it be administrative, event planning, providing translation services, or putting together mailers. You may even have a special skill or job that you think would help our school in marketing, promotions, technology, or community fundraising. No gift of time or talent is too small.
Before anyone can volunteer or assist with events such as class parties or the fall festival they must attend Virtus safe environment training and pass a background check. See below for more information on Virtus.
What do I have to do to be a volunteer?
Before volunteering in any archdiocesan school or parish school, all persons, including parents, must undergo safe environment training as well as submit to a background check by the Archdiocese of Atlanta. According to Article 12 of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, all parishes, schools, and agencies in the Archdiocese of Atlanta are to maintain safe environment programs. The Archdiocese of Atlanta currently uses Virtus – Protecting God’s Children. More information about this program can be found here.
Getting approved as a volunteer is simple, and your approval status is good for five years before having to be renewed. Please read further to see how you will need to apply:
- I’ve never applied to be a volunteer at school or my parish – If you’ve never applied to be a volunteer, then you must attend one of the Virtus training sessions which are held at various locations across the Archdiocese. To find a location for a training session close to you, please click here. For information about the program, please click here.
- I’m already an approved volunteer at my Catholic parish or another Catholic school – If you are approved as a volunteer by your parish or another Archdiocesan school, then please e-mail Frank Ittner at firstname.lastname@example.org and tell her the name of the Catholic parish or Archdiocesan school of which you are an approved volunteer. She will verify this information and notify you via email if you are clear to volunteer.
Please note that if you plan to be a volunteer driver for field trips, the battle of the books or 1st grade nursing home visits, you will need to complete the driver approval form in addition to the above process.
How do I find out about volunteer opportunities?
All volunteer opportunities in or out of the classroom are sent via Sign Up Genius. These include but are not limited to class parties, assisting teachers with copying and laminating, HSA events, such as Santa’s Breakfast, Fall Festival, Neulympics, and development events like the crusader party, annual fund, food or supply donations. Emails are sent out when needed for specific opportunities and a simple e-mail reminder is sent closer to the event so you don’t forget. Create an account with Sign Up Genius using the email address(es) you listed on your child’s application to receive these notifications. If you would like to use an email other than the one you listed, please email Dayna Wright at email@example.com to be added to our Sign Up Genius database. More information on Sign Up Genius can be found here.
If you have any questions about becoming a volunteer, please contact our Business Manager Frank Ittner – firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for the gifts and talents you bring to our programs and activities!
